Webley & Scott Ltd Model 400 in 16 Gauge Perfect Upland SXS
Description: I have for sale a great little Webley & Scott Ltd. Model 400 in 16 gauge. The serial number is 116323 which according to my research has it being built in 1939 in the absolute best era of English gun making. The gun has 27 inch nitro steel barrels making it quick to the rising bird and especially nice in thick cover which is always encountered while grouse and woodcock hunting. The right barrel has a bore of .672 with a constriction of .006 or tight skeet, with the left barrel having a bore of .670 and a constriction of .010 for improved cylinder. This is my favorite chokes for Quai, Grouse, Woodcock, and even Pheasants over a pointing dog. The boxlock action has profusely carved oak leaf fences and nice scroll work on the receiver. The action features disc set strikers, a screw grip third bite, and selective ejectors. The chambers were originally bored for 2 1/2" shells but at some point the chambers were lengthened to 2 3/4" and reproofed in Birmingham England. The beautiful stock is made of highly figured European Walnut with nice dark streaks and wonderful straight grain through the wrist area which is so important on these light upland guns. Stock dimensions are 1 7/16 X 2 3/8 X 14 7/8 over a beautifully done 1/2" leather covered pad, so if you should need a longer LOP it is simply a matter of adding a thicker pad. The gun is presented in a nice compact leather case with the makers label. The gun has an automatic safety with the word SAFE in gold. It also has a blank gold initial plate in the stock should you want to add your initials. Overall condition is excellent with a good amout of original case coloring still present and top lever still right of center with super tight lockup. As a side note the Model 400 is a much nicer gun in my opinion than the later Model 700 with better fit, finish, and the added screw grip third bite. Price of the gun is $4200 plus $75 shipping to your FFL. As always there is a three day non-firing inspection period with the buyer paying shipping charges if returned.
