WINCHESTER 1893 12 GA
Description: Guns Listing ID: 593090 Winchester Model 1893 • Serial #11300 • Antique • John Browning Design • Early Pump-Action • Black Powder Era This listing is for a highly collectible Winchester Model 1893 pump-action shotgun, serial number 11300, produced in the mid-1890s. The Winchester 1893 is one of the most historically important pump shotguns ever produced, serving as the direct predecessor to the iconic Winchester Model 1897. Designed by John Moses Browning, this shotgun represents Winchester’s transition from exposed-hammer repeaters to true slide-action designs and stands as one of the earliest successful pump-action shotguns in American firearms history. Only approximately 34,000 units were ever manufactured, making the Model 1893 significantly rarer than the 1897 that followed. Early examples such as this one are especially desirable to collectors. ?? CONDITION DETAILS Metal Finish The metal components display an even, honest patina with consistent thinning throughout, appropriate for an antique firearm of this age. Surfaces remain smooth with no deep pitting. The “WINCHESTER MODEL 1893" rollmark is crisp and fully legible, and the receiver retains clean edges with no evidence of buffing or over-polishing. The barrel shows a light golden-toned line along the top seam—a natural result of early manufacturing solder work—which is common and correct for original 1893 barrels. Receiver & Action The receiver is solid, with clean screw heads and all original geometry intact. The action cycles smoothly and correctly for its age. As expected with all Winchester 1893s, this firearm is offered as a collectible only. It has not been test fired. Wood – Stock & Forend The wood on this example is far above average for the model. The buttstock features Winchester’s early deluxe-style multi-inlay pattern, featuring contrasting strips and a diamond centerpiece. The inlays are intact, tight, and eye-catching. This feature alone adds collector value. The slide handle retains its original ribbed design with tight wood, no cracks, and an attractive aged finish. There are typical handling marks but no cracks, repairs, or structural issues. Serial Number Serial number 11300, clearly stamped and matching, placing this gun solidly in early production. ?? IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE The Winchester Model 1893 was designed and built for black powder 12-gauge shells only. It predates the smokeless powder era, and Winchester discontinued the model because the design was not intended to withstand modern pressures. This firearm must be considered a NON-SHOOTER and is sold strictly as a collectible antique. This is standard and expected for all Model 1893 shotguns and does not affect collector value. ?? HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Designed by John M. Browning, America’s most influential gun designer First successful Winchester pump-action shotgun Foundation design for the famous Model 1897 Extremely limited production (approx. 34k) Increasingly scarce on today’s market Antique status – no FFL required in many states (buyer must verify local laws) This shotgun represents a major turning point in Winchester’s development and early American repeating shotgun history. ??
