Dakota Arms 76 Classic Rifle – Customized by Hill Country Rifles – 6.5 Creedmoor – Ultra-Accurate
Description: For Sale is a used, in excellent plus condition (less than 110 rounds fired), Dakota 76 Classic rifle customized by Hill Country Rifles (HCR) of New Braunfels, Texas with a Swarovski PV 4-16x50 Scope and 2 Stocks (Original Dakota XX English Walnut & McMillan Hunter’s Edge). This early Don Allen era rifle with a "K" serial number started life as a new Dakota 76 Classic rifle chambered in 22-250 that I took in on a trade. The rifle was subsequently sent to HCR to be accurized and rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor using a 22” Benchmark 1:8 Twist 3 Groove #2 Contour, match grade barrel. At a later date, the rifle was again sent to HCR to be fitted in a new McMillan Hunters Edge Carbon Fiber Stock (Gray with Black Specs). The action was pillar and glass bedded and all metal was finished in Graphite Black Cerakote. The rifle was then returned a to HCR a third time for installation of one of their proprietary muzzle brakes (threaded 1/2x28). The rifle was returned after muzzle brake installation with a .269" test target at 100 yards using Barnes 120 grain VOR-TX TTSX BT factory ammunition. In its current configuration, the rifle is very similar to Hill Country Rifle’s “Long Range Hunter” model, making it ideal for open country hunting, where longer shots are often necessary. Weight of the rifle with the McMillan stock, bases and rings installed, but without a scope, is approximately 7.39 lbs., and approximately 8.77 lbs. with the currently mounted Swarovski scope, which weighs 1.39 lbs. Dakota’s Model 76 action blends elements from the pre-’64 Model 70s and the Mauser. It’s a controlled-round feed system with a three-position safety mounted on the bolt shroud and an open-design two-piece trigger, which is favored for its reliability. The action also features a flush-mounted side bolt release that practically disappears into the receiver in the closed position. The original Dakota checkered XX grade English walnut stock is included in the sale and features an ebony forend tip, inletted sling swivels, and a deluxe recoil pad. This stock was pillar and glass bedded to the action when the rifle was originally rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor. The length of pull (LOP) is approximately 13.5” with the McMillan stock and 13.7” with the Dakota stock. The pictured Talley Scope Bases and 30mm Screw Lock Rings are included in the sale along with the the currently mounted and sighted in Swarovski Habicht Professional Series PV 4-16x50 Scope. The scope is in excellent+ condition and has only ever been mounted on this rifle. It features a 30mm tube, a TDS Reticle, and a front Adjustable Objective. Swarovski hosts a free online Ballistic Program that calculates ballistic curves and generates correct aiming points for TDS reticle based on specific rifle and ammunition data. At reticle image with distances shown for each aiming point can be printed out and taped to the scope to provide quick holdover information in the field. Dakota Arms was purchased by Remington Arms in 2009 and subsequently acquired by its current owners, Parkwest Arms, in the wake of Remington’s bankruptcy. Parkwest (still residing in Sturgis, South Dakota) continues to build on Dakota’s legacy of high-end rifle builds. Parkwest’s current SD-76 Legend rifle (the model most similar to the legacy Dakota 76 Classic) build starts at $8,495 and only has a Sub MOA Guarantee (in most calibers). This is a rare opportunity to own a superbly accurate rifle in a versatile caliber that is already sighted in with an excellent choice of Barnes ammunition and can be immediately deployed on your next demanding long range hunt. More photos of the scope can be provided upon request. Please email me with any questions and to confirm availability as this item may be listed for sale elsewhere.
