c1850s Antique BUFFALO LONG RIFLE by J.W. VAN METER DARKE COUNTY, OHIO .65
25 LB. HEAVY LARGE BORE OCTAGONAL
Description: c1850s Antique BUFFALO LONG RIFLE by J.W. VAN METER DARKE COUNTY, OHIO .65 25 LB. HEAVY LARGE BORE OCTAGONAL Here we present an antique J.W. Van Meter Half Stock Percussion Heavy Large Bore Barrel Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. James William Van Meter worked as a gunsmith in Richmond Dale, Darke County, Ohio in mid-1850s. He was born in Virginia around 1811 and died in Ohio in 1878. A half stock with a Golcher lock would have been typical of the 1840-1860 time frame. Darke County was home to quite a number of Gun Smiths during the mid-1800’s, with Daniel Marker Sr. probably being the most notable. This example has a very heavy, stout octagonal barrel is in .65 caliber, large enough to take very large sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Simple open rifle sights. Both the top of the barrel and the generous muzzle flat is marked with the maker’s name. Double set triggers. Large percussion bolster with a plate to protect from flash. This would have been transported by wagon given its 25 pound overall weight! The overall condition is very good. Dark patina. The action is strong. The bore is sharply rifled with reflective surfaces. The stock has a solid repair at the wrist, shows use, remains solid throughout. A very neat piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35 inches. Caliber: .65 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2400 #254029 SOLD Antique: Yes |
