Smith & Wesson K 38 1950 Post-War Masterpiece 5-Screw with Later-Model 8-1/4 Inch Full Lug Barrel

Description:
A Shooter and Collector’s Used; Circa 1955; Serial # K 256,4XX; Customized Smith & Wesson .38 Special Masterpiece; Pre-Model 14; Five-Screw Sideplate Revolver; with a Later Model 8-¼ Inch Full Lug Smith & Wesson Barrel – possibly from a 1990’s Model 14-5; or from an L-Frame gun; Solid, Wide Serrated Rib & Sight Tang; Windage & Elevation Click-Adjustable Target Rear Sight; 1/8-Inch-Wide Baughman Ramp, Quick-Draw, Front Sight with Red Insert; Four-Line Address on the Frame; Large S&W Monogram on the Sideplate; Serrated Front- and Backstrap. The gun is likely refinished, leaving the markings sharp and legible, but not as deep as original. The barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left Side; “38 SPECIAL” on the Right Side – on non-S&W factory-machined Flats. This Revolver has a Wide Checkered (Low Spur) Hammer; Wide Serrated Trigger. The Barrel is Pinned, and the Cylinder has a Matching Serial Number on the Rear Face. The Bore is Like-New; and the Chambers are Bright. The Exterior Barrel Finish (not the bore) and Frame show tool marks. Not shown is the transverse hole through the bottom strap (behind the grip locator pin) indicating this frame was configured for a lanyard loop before selection as a target model. The Oversize Checkered Grips look like Sile Grips (Italy). Not being dealers or experts, and because it was re-barreled and re-finished, condition is best judged from the photos.
