Scarce Civil War Remington Model 1861 Army Revolver
Description: Serial #2751, .44 Caliber, 8" octagon barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some dark freckling within the grooves. This is a good looking, early production revolver, with Remington & Beals type frame, that has an overall plum-brown patina with silvering along the edges of the barrel facets, and along the high and projecting edges and surfaces. The matching numbered cylinder matches the condition of the rest of the revolver, and exhibits very little in the way of pitting either on the face, or around the nipples. Some further freckling is present on the sides of the hammer spur, and the brass trigger guard has developed a dull ochre patina over time. The Model 1861 was designed for the cylinder pin to be removable while the loading lever was still latched to the barrel, but this was deemed an undesirable feature by the US government and most, like this example, had a blocking screw added to prevent the pin from traveling while the lever was latched. The walnut grips are in very good shape, with small handling marks and minor blemishes scattered about the reapplied oil finish, and a visible US inspector cartouche at the butt on the left panel. The action still locks up tightly, and is fully functional. Only about 6,000 or so of these revolvers were ever built, with most production going to the US government. This example is in very good condition and would make a great addition to any Civil War collection. Antique; Antique: Yes Price: $2,495.00 Contact Seller |
