Jacob Rubertus Empire 3, .22 short
Description: Manufactured by Jacob Rubertus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this Empire 3 revolver dates to the 1870s and is chambered in .22 Short Rimfire. The revolver retains the majority of its original nickel finish with only minor wear from age and handling. The barrel shows good rifling with some shine remaining and light pitting near the muzzle. Original wood grips are in excellent shape, displaying a smooth surface and tight fit. Mechanically, the action functions properly, though the cylinder may slightly over-rotate if cocked too quickly, and the half-cock position is somewhat weak. Hammer can fall at full cock is pushed. The revolver should only be fired with .22 CB caps, as modern .22 Short ammunition produces pressures too high for this antique firearm. A well-preserved and largely original example of a late 19th-century American pocket revolver, representative of Jacob Rubertus’s craftsmanship during the post–Civil War era.
