CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE OVAL C S BELT PLATE

Description:
This small die stamped lead filled CS oval is a little bigger than a chicken egg, as shown in the size comparison picture. This has a nice mellow mustard color to the brass with some variations in hew but fairly even in tone to the whole face. There are file marks along the edge where this was hand finished as the last part of the process and these show smoothing from wear. There is oxidation to some areas of the lead fill. The bent bronze wire belt hooks embedded in the lead have a variation of age toning where exposed and are splattered or covered with lead. There are a lot of micro abrasions on the face of the buckle from use, handling and wear which is a characteristic of original period buckles. Someone suggested this is a repro but there needs to be another somewhere to reproduce, if the case, there are NO others to be purchased for any price anywhere I can find. The individual that said it is a repro provided no documentation or evidence to support that claim and did not reference me to who or what company made it. (I did find one other of these that had been sold in an older . That is the ONLY other example I can locate. It certainly looks like an item made during the Civil War, the last two pictures.) If anyone can correct me on this with evidence or documentation, I welcome that input, otherwise from my experience, this is guaranteed to be an original Confederate made CW item.
