WAR OF 1812 U.S. NAVAL PATRIOTIC SCRIMSHAW WHALE’S TOOTH CIRCA 1800-1815. Large 6 ½” length and 6” diameter at base. Superbly scrimshawed U.S. Naval scenes on front including one of the U.S. Frigates probably the Constitution, Federal Eagle and Shield, naval Anchor and large number of Stars and Stripes flags all surmounted by a Wreath/Star motif in a wreath above a banner and five Stars. Reverse scrimshawed in floral motifs with Stars and Stripes banner at center with an Eagle in flight. Mounted on the original lead and wood base with the original square head nails. Beautiful original old patina. Superb and very rare. One of the best scrimshaw whale’s teeth known. The highly successful career of the Frigate Constitution made it a very popular motif by the end of the war. $17,500.
